I have been taking amitriptline since 2003. I am a dietbetic and I have nuerophathy in my right toes.If I don't take my medicine,my toes start burning. My amitriptyline keeps that from happening. So far I have not experienced any side affects from it. It really works for me.

I'm extremely unhappy to find out that MOST antidepressants have weight gain as a side effect. Well, for me, that's pretty depressing! Is there anything that I can take that doesn't make me gain weight?!

I have taken this a long time, and it was not the reason for the suidcide, but was a very bad choice due to to amount taken. They took me off it, for a while. My psychiatrist 4yrs ago suggested using it again, I was very scared at first, but it has helped. A few doctors due to nueropathy want to increase dosage. but psyc said no as I take other pain meds and he feels it could cause over sedation.
