I am not sure if I am allergic to penicillin and told my dentist this. I seem to remember having a reaction (possibly a rash) many years ago, but unsure. I also mentioned "amoxycillin" to him, thinking that I had been prescribed that once without problem, but all this is in the distant past and I cannot remember. He prescribed amoxicillin, which I just took (broke open capsule and poured on food per pharmacist since I have gagging problems when swallowing large pills and capsules.) I suppose I should wait and see if I have any reaction, but reading these posts has me worried. I previously had a severe reaction to lisinopril after being on it 4 years. I know there is no connection between the two, but a bit worried. Any advice? 58 year old female

Before I get my teeth cleaned (every 6 months) my dentist recommends Amoxicillin 400 mg. 1 hour before treatment. I take a host of other medications, such as Tamoxifen, Amitriptyline, blood pressure meds, etc.

I got Bronchitis last and my new Primary Doctor prescribed Amoxicillin for 7 days. After taking 4 tabs (2 days worth) I started having severe intestinal problems. (Very dark runny for 2 days) I also started to have nausea. I called the doctor and he told me to stop taking it immediately, and drink lots of water to flush it from my system. I had never taken it before, so I didn't know I was allergic to it. I know I'm allergic to Keflex, Cipro, and Sulfa. My husband took and and he was fine.
