Global Patient Feedback for Aspirin (Aspirin)

I have afib controlled by digoxin. I was diagnosed in July 1996. I have no episodes since starting on the digoxin. I take an 81 mg aspirin an hour before taking Niaspan at bedtime to prevent flushing. The aspirin does seem to add a small bleeding risk but that is minor. Perhaps the person taking a 325 mg aspirin should reduce it to an 81 mg dose. That should reduce the bleeding risk.

My cardiologist has me taking 325mg aspirin a day, because I have afib. ( I have been in normal sinus rhythm for over two years ) I have told him that I have a history of bleeding. He says, the need outweighs the concern. Is he correct? I scratched my arm last weekend while working in the garden. It bled and bled, took a half hour before it would stop. This was just a scratch from some thorns. What would happen if I actually had cut myself?

I take aspirin and have now been advised to take Gingko Biloba to improve the blood oxygen to my brain. MediGuard alerted me that there is interaction between the aspirin which can cause excess bleeding and the Gingko and I don not know which one to discontinue - I feel that improving my brain activity is very important at my age (68) and therefore am tempted to stop taking the aspirin - h e l p!!
