Global Patient Feedback for Avonex

I have been on Avonex since December 1999. Over the years I have found that if I put the Avonex pack (unopened) in my pant pocket for one hour before I do the injection I have elimated 95% of the side effects. Closer to my own body temp has helped. I have not missed my weekly shot since starting on Avonex. I still have MS, but have not had any "flare-ups" and do everything I did before. May take a few minutes longer but has not stopped me.

Have been on Avonex for 4 months. The worst side effects were in the first month, however the symptoms of severe flu still persist. They come on about 18 hours after taking the medication and continue for about 24 hours. Ibuprofen helps a bit. I have been told this should all stop but can take up to a year.

I get my Avonex injection between 11a.m. and 1.pm. It seems to help with the side affects. I take tylenol about an hour or two after I get the shot and then again 4-5 hours later. Then I don't wake up with the side affects, like I did with nighttime injections.
