I have been taking 1/3 of a 25 mg. benedryl tablet at night to help me sleep. It works like a charm, I sleep hard all thru the night. I have lately been noticing a racing heartrate (52 yr. old female) I went to ER the other day because of that, all tests were normal... Wondering if this could be caused by the med. I don't take it every night. I need help sleeping!

I have taken an OTC sleep aid for several years and have no side effects. I try to make sure that If I do have to increase my dose to 2 pills at a time that the next day I go back to one pill. I have also found that working out (exercise) helps me to sleep better so that I can take only one pill daily.

I was having allergy symptoms and I took Diphenhydramine HCL 25 mg twice a day. It seemed to help - the dosage called for up to 2 tabs. but I only took l each time. One time I took 2 at one time and I noticed I had restless leg syndrome. When I went to my doctor for a physical recently, they noticed that my blood pressure was elevated 154/84. I have been taking it regularly and it has been fine. The only new thing I took was the med mentioned above over a two week period. Could this med cause my bp to go up??
