My 10 year old daughter who is classified with profound cerebal palsy, and globalized epilipsy is on a miriad of medications.......We just started her on Banzel...in hopes of lowering her Valproic acid, and other meds. added sleepiness, but more active alert time has been noticed so far. Ill keep you posted further down the road.

I have been on Rufinamide in a clinical study for more than three years. My seizure condition was partially uncontrolled due to high stress attending college as a non-traditional student after 25 years. Since becoming acclimated to Rufinamide, I have been capable of discontinuing one of the other medications, and lowering my Keppra levels drastically. However, you CANNOT miss this medication!! I cannot emphasize this stringently enough. I missed a dose last week, and was late with the second dose of that day. I then suffered thru an entire day of aura-induced confusion. No seizure followed. I would recommend Rufinamide to clients that are having difficulties in maintaining control. It does not seem to have as drastic side effects as Topamax and Tegretol. The main ones are sleepiness, especially after dose 2; inablility to concentrate or focus if taken on low calorie intake; and for me, problems with partial intestinal blockage. I don't know if this is related or not.
