Global Patient Feedback for Codeine

I was taking codeine phosphate to complement paracetamol and diclofenac in dealing initially with a severely osteoatrhritic hip joint and then with hip replacement surgery post -op pain. Also took Movicol alongside to prevent the dire constipation. I didn't want to stay too long on any unnecessary pain relief and so stopped the diclofenec after a few weeks, then the codeine a few weeks later.BIG mistake! I suffered what I eventually realised were codeine withdrawal symptoms! Really unpleasant.Went back on to a low dose of codeine - (immediate relief) and am reducing the amount down gradually. I reckon it should say on the front label something like REGULAR USERS SHOULD BEWARE OF STOPPING THIS DRUG COLD TURKEY DUE TO WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS. SPEAK TO YOUR DOCTOR.

I have been taking a mixture of codeine and phenargan for a cough related to upper resperatory infection. I also take melatonin to help me sleep and now I want to take 5-HTP for depression. I also take lorazepam. Can anyone tell me what "not" to take or how to juggle these things so I can get the benefit without the worry?

I have been taking Codeine Sulfate (60mg) four times a day for over a year to control Diarrhea and it has worked wonders for me. I have had Crohns for over 30 years and due to the fact that most of my small bowel has been removed I had diarrea very bad and this drug has almost stopped this problem. I know that it is addictive but without this drug my life was not good at all. The only problem I have now is finding an insurance that will pay for it.
