Global Patient Feedback for Cordarone (Amiodarone)
Please see our forum guidelines.
I am a 66 year old male. I have a/fib and bouts with VT. Had a IACD implant about four years and was put on amiodarone. Coincidentally about 15 days later suffered extreme vertigo with nausea and vomiting. Shortly thereafter hearing in my right ear was gone. Doctors did not believe this was ototoxicity caused by amiodarone. Have been able to resume rigorous swimming every other day for at least an hour with no adverse effects. No way I could have done this 4 years ago. Dennis

Amiodarone, Cordarone, Pacerone. I have been taking this since 1988 for a sustained Ventricular Arrhythmia that couldn't be controlled with other medications . I have had no recurrence of the heart Arrhythmia and no major issues that have come up. Sunburn easily, eyesight affected some but no noticeable side effects. But I do worry about being on it for so long, my doctor says it is more important to take it than to risk problems.

I reluctantly started taking amiodarone after having several cardio-versions for a-fib. Started at 400 mg daily and within the month, my heart was back in rthym and has stayed that way for 9 mos. I, too, am leary of taking this potent drug and definitely for a long period of time. So far I have not had any serious side effects. I am monitored every 6 months for liver and kidney function but have not ahd a thyroid test along with this. Will certainly ask doctor about this on next visit.
