Global Patient Feedback for Focalin (Dexmethylphenidate)
Please see our forum guidelines.
My son has been taking Focalin for a few years now w/no side effects. He takes XR30mg @ 6:30am, 5mg @ noon & 5mg @ 3:30pm. This combination seems to work well for him. In May of this year, his 5mg dose was changed from Focalin to the generic Dexmethylphenidate Hydrochloride. Around mid-July, we began noticing some facial & neck tics. What is the possibility that these could have come to surface due to the switch from the name brand to the generic form? I know the generic is supposed to be chemically the same, but I just find it strange that now all of a sudden since the switch he is having very noticable tics to the point where his neck & shoulders are hurting him. I would like to be able to continue w/this course of treatment since the combination works well as far as behavioral issues, but I cannot continue if these tics are going to keep getting worse. Please help!!!!

I have an 8 year old that focalin xr was recomended. She had to have blood tests and an ekg before taking and I am awaiting the results for the go ahead. I found out in the mean time her insurance will not cover it but if it helps her inprove I am going to have to figure out how to afford it. Does anyone know of any programs that will help you pay for your med?
