I developed microscopic colitis after taking this drug. Although my gastroenterologist said that it is rare, the information that Prevacid causes microscopic colitis was posted on the first page of an online support group for this disease so I doubt that it is rare. I was lucky in that I insisted on a colonoscopy which is how this was diagnosed.

I have been taking Prevacid and now lansoprazole for years daily for acid reflux. recently my pharmicist called and said it was never meant for long term use and could cause loss of calcium. i already have osteopenia but now on Reclast and take extra calcium and vitamin and bone density test looks better. i am 79 and do lots of exercise. should i reconsider takine lansoprazole daily?
