I have been taking Theophyline, 300 mg. twice a day, for over 30 years now. My asthma responds well when I am taking it, and I rarely have an asthma attack if I keep taking it. I stopped it for a while, thinking it wasn't really necessary, and boy was I wrong! I wheezed so bad, and when I started taking it again, it took a few weeks before I was back on track. I don't know why I did such a silly thing, it is by far one of the least expensive of my medications, especially since I take the generic version. I will never do that again!

I am 65 years of age and have had allergies and asthma from the age of 14 years. I was dismissed by several GPs who said they couldn't find anything wrong with me. I eventualy (about 20 years ago) went to see a different GP who referred me to the hospital chest specialist who diagnosed asthma and allergies. I have been taking uniphyllin, brycanil and pulmicort under his guidance for about 15 years. If I forget to take a uniphyllin tablet before I go to bed I wake in the night gasping for breath. I have had two emergencies whereby I almost died and had to have adrenalin and oxygen. I wouldn't do without my medication - I have had no side effects whatsoever and thrive on them.
