What does it do?

This product is used in the treatment of anxiety, itchiness, and in some cases used in conjunction with other sedatives. It is an antihistamine unrelated to others, but its exact mechanism of action is unknown.

Did any one else gain weight while taking vistaril? I was also taking paxil, inderal when I noticed the weight gain. Now I take celexa,with the vistaril,it helps me sleep, if I only take it occasionally,it also helps me to be calm and peaceful all day.The only problem I have with vistaril is the weight gain?

I have a friend who has been taking vistaril for 2 months but he wants to stop...would he get withdrawall from it...?? He forgot to take it a few times missing som days...is this bad? thanks ..susie

I have been taking hydroxizine pamoate for approximately 20 years, in doses varying from 1 per day to 5 per day. I know of no side effects, except it could be connected to weight gain. I quit smoking about the same time I started on hydroxizine, and assumed that was the cause of the weight gain. I was taking Benadril before the hydroxizine and had several side effects, as well as the cost becoming prohibitive It was taking as many as 10 Benadril per day to control my itching. Have yet to find a reason for the itching. Barry
