I take 2000 IU of Vit D 3 (not Vit D 2- Ergocalciferal) each day. I live in the north central US and avoid the sun due to past skin cancer. I initially asked to be tested because of body pain and found that I was deficient. Body pain improved as well as general feeling of well-being. It was important also because I have osteopenia and I want to be sure I can absorb calcium to maintain bone health. After taking 50,000 IU of Ergocalciferal once a week for about a year I was no longer deficient. However, I still had Vit D insufficiency so I switched to daily vit D 3 and am being monitored every 4 months. Vit D really is a hormone with receptors on most cells of the body. I noticed on this site, there isn't a listing for Vit D 3, just vit D 2.
