66 year old pharmacist again: glucosamine is regulated by FDA as a food and not a drug per DSHEA (law passed by Congress). Medical claims cannot be made in marketing glucosamine. Therefore, cannot state that it treats arthritis but can state that it helps joint function. It may take months for glucosamine to begin to work; so do not give up after only several weeks of use to see if really does help you, unless you believe you are having adverse side effects, which it seems not to have.

I am a 66 year old pharmacist and have been taking 1200 mg of glucosamine daily for ten years. No side effects at all. I play basketball every week and keep up with and defend guys in their 30s. I am the fastest on the court for two straight hours. I also play softball and golf. Two friends of mine who could not play basketball because of knee problems started taking glucosamine and now are playing again.
