My 18 yr old daughter who has a diagnosis of autism, has been on risperdal for about 8 yrs now. It has worked fairly well for her except that she has to stay on a low dose, 1.5mg, because her prolactin levels increase dramatically. Recently she has been having trouble sleeping and her doctor asked us to give her dose a 1/2 hour before bed to help her with sleep. We did that and she began to sleep again BUT her mood, self abuse and behavioral outbursts have become terrible. Could she be building a resistance to the risperdal?
