Abbott Voluntarily Recalls Certain Similac Brand Powder Infant Formulas That Did Not Meet Quality Standards

Abbott has issued a voluntary recall of certain Similac-brand powder infant formulas in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and some countries in the Caribbean. These products, which include Isomil and Go & Grow, are being recalled because because of possible contamination with insect pieces or larvae.

The FDA has determined that the formula containing these insect pieces poses no long-term health risk. However, there is a possibility that infants who consume formula containing the insect pieces could experience an upset stomach and refuse to eat. Parents should consult a doctor if these symptoms persist for more than a few days.

The recall of these powder infant formulas includes: 1) Certain Similac powder product lines offered in plastic containers.

2) Certain Similac powder product lines offered in 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans.
