Safety Alerts & Recalls

What does this mean?

INTAL INHALERS will remain available through pharmacies until current supplies are depleted. No additional INTAL INHALER product will be available after King, pharmacy, and wholesaler supplies are exhausted. If you are using an INTAL INHALER, please make an appointment with your doctor so that you can be switched to a different therapy.

If you are using eye drop or nebulizer cromolyn sodium products, these products will continue to be available by prescription from your pharmacy. If you have any questions about INTAL or other cromolyn sodium products, please follow up with your doctor or pharmacist.

King Pharmaceuticals To Stop Making Intal Inhalers

King Pharmaceuticals, Inc will soon stop manufacturing INTAL INHALERS (cromolyn sodium inhalation aerosol). This action is not the result of any safety or efficacy issues regarding this product. This decision is based upon many factors, including the inability to reformulate INTAL to a chlorofluorocarbon-free or hydrofluoroalkane (HFA) propellant formulation.

INTAL INHALER is a prophylactic agent indicated in the management of patients with bronchial asthma. Other cromolyn sodium products such as eye drops and solutions for nebulization will continue to be available.
