Safety Alerts & Recalls

What does this mean?
This new study highlights the importance of working with your doctor to regularly review the risks and benefits of the medications you are taking. If you or someone you care for is taking Donepezil, please follow up with your doctor to have a discussion about how the benefits of this medication balance against the risk of complications.
Donepezil (Aricept) Linked to Increased Risk of Fainting and Low Heart Rate
A recent study in the Archives of Internal Medicine suggests that the risk of fainting and low heart rate is increased in patients who take cholinesterase inhibitors such donepezil (Aricept), galantamine (Razadyne), and rivastigmine (Exelon) for the treatment of dementia. The study also identified that patients on these medications have an increased risk of pacemaker insertion and hip fractures, which are common complications of low heart rate and fainting.
