What does this mean?
For most patients, the recalled Milk of Magnesia will not cause any health problems. However, patients who are diabetic or concerned about the amount of calories they consume should not use this mislabeled product since the product contains sugar. If you use sugar-free Milk of Magnesia because you are diabetic or concerned about how may calories you consume, you should check to make sure you do not have any of the recalled product in your home. Look at your Milk of Magnesia bottle and see if it is a cherry flavored 12 ounce bottle made by L. Perrigo Co and labeled with one of the lot numbers listed in the recall. The lot number is usually printed on the side or bottom of the bottle. If you think your Milk of Magnesia is involved in the recall or if you are not sure, you should return it to your pharmacy to examine and possibly exchange.
Recall of Several Lots of Milk of Magnesia Cherry Liquid 12 ounce Bottles
L. Perrigo Co. is recalling several lots of Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide), 1200 mg Saline Laxative, Cherry Liquid 12 FL oz bottles with product number NDC 59779-949-40 and UPC 5042807094. The company has issued this recall because the recalled product is label as sugar-free but it actually contains sugar. The following lot numbers have been recalled: 9DK0168, 9DK0376, 9EK0118, 9EK0173, 9EK0367, 9EK0525, 9FK0044, 9FK0256, 9FK0425, 9FK0521, 9GK0049, 9GK0308, 9GK0436, 9GK0668, 9HK0106, 9HK0285, 9HK0372 and 9JK0126
Milk of Magnesia contains the active ingredient magnesium hydroxide and is used on a short-term basis to treat constipation. No other brands, strengths, or lot numbers of Milk of Magnesia or magnesium hydroxide are involved in this recall.
