Nycomed Recalls Several Different Eye Ointments
Nycomed US, Inc, is recalling several different eye ointments that are commonly used in the treatment of conjunctivitis and other infections of the eye. The following ointments and lot numbers are being recalled because these lots may be contaminated with bacteria: 1) Erythromycin Ophthalmic Ointment, 0.5% (5 mg/g) in 1 gram tubes - Lots R46, R50, R64, R66, R77, R78, R79, R80, R82, 50A, 52A, 53A, and 56A
2) Bacitracin Zinc and Polymyxin B Sulfate Ophthalmic Ointment, 500 bacitracin units + 10,000 polymyxin B units per gram, in 3.5 g tubes - Lot 67A
3) Gentamicin Sulfate Ophthalmic Ointment, 3 mg/gram, in 3.5 g tubes - Lot 13A
4) Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Ointment, 3.5mg Neomycin + 10,000 Polymyxin B units + 1mg Dexamethasone per gram, in 3.5 g tubes - Lot 29A
5) Puralube Ointment (Petrolatum Ophthalmic Ointment), in 1 g tubes - Lots R09, R56, R90, and 68A
This recall alert only applies to these specific eye ointments and lot numbers made by Nycomed. No other lots, strengths, brands, or formulations were involved in this recall.
